MAO Zedong: So Sad, So Separate...

(first published by People's Daily on 9 September 1978)

This poem was written in 1923 and revised by himself for many times,

however, it has not obtained its deserved regards in CHINA.

Many persons guess who the poem's protagonist is, but it's not important at all.

We don't know what he was considering when he last handwrote it in 1973.

The poem reveals the painful spirit all his life

and what he was worrying about in his later time.

The 1973's handwriting is indeed a summary of himself.

He is so alone...where is his lover? where is his ideal? but who can understand him?

賀新郎 別友

 揮手從茲去
更那堪淒然相向
苦情重訴
眼角眉梢都似恨
熱淚欲零還住
知誤會前番書語
過眼滔滔雲共霧
算人間知己吾和汝
人有病
天知否

今朝霜重東門路
照橫塘半天殘月
淒清如許
汽笛一聲腸已斷
從此天涯孤旅
憑割斷愁絲恨縷
要似昆侖崩絕壁
又恰像颱風掃寰宇
重比翼
和雲翥

Some peoples think that he is the God of China;
some peoples try to evaluate him scientifically.
He does confuse so many of his peoples, even his last wife who loves him so much…
however, it's nothing at all,
because he knows that he can wait for the day of the hope.
Maybe we just understand now
when he is working and thinking busy for the peoples,
he forgets to tell us one truth clearly: just do like him.
We actually do not need so much money,
if everything has been lost, there is liberty…

It's certainly a painful procedure for us to understand how we can work and say like a man.
