我發現我若是生在雅典那個時代，也無法存活，因為必定要被柏拉圖驅出理想國，原因是我是詩人。他不允許詩人講神的壞話，並且詆毀我們說謊，光明的理由是：詩人是“摹仿者”，與真理隔著三層，我們不配發現真理；能留在城邦的詩人是那些講道德故事的詩人。
他以赫西俄德『神譜』為例，其中講了烏剌諾斯的故事以及他的兒子報復他的情景，他說這是詩人對一位高貴的尊神說了一個最大的謊——烏剌諾斯是天神，與地神相配生了十八個孩子，克諾諾斯是其中之一。天神厭恨子女，克諾諾斯把他的父親推翻了，自己做了天神，後來克諾諾斯又被他的兒子宙斯推翻。——柏拉圖認為這個謊說得不好，他說：“我們要嚴格禁止神和神搏鬥，神謀害神之間的故事。它們不是真的，而且我們的城邦的保衛者們必須把隨便就相爭鬥看成最大的恥辱，巨人們的搏鬥，以及神和英雄們與他們的親友們爭吵之類的故事都不准講。……”詩人不該把神描寫得不完美，這于理智不發達的孩子有害。
要知道，柏拉圖曾經也是一位詩人，他寫過很多詩，也寫戲劇，甚至覺得比歐裏庇德斯寫得好。
教育者從來不會為自己的心說話，他代表的是一個群體，想到的必然是如何治人，在『伊安篇』中，他認為詩人的知識不及禦車人、醫生、漁夫、統帥等等，但奇怪的是詩人居然能高居這些世俗之人之上，寫下描繪他們的詩。我很難區分柏拉圖對詩人真正的態度。為了城邦的安定，柏拉圖將現象世界看作不完善，理念世界是完善的。詩人只描繪現象世界，詩人要進理想國，就必須描繪理念世界，柏拉圖逼迫詩人說謊，讚美君主與神，倘非如此，則人心渙散，難以統治，所以作為教育者，他只是馴化人的一個工具。如果馴化久了，就會溫馴，失去思考和感覺的能力，成為懦弱變質的種類，柏拉圖是否希望如此？
教育者是偽善的。
